En este artículo se describe Grossera angustifolia Barberá & Riina, una nueva especie de Euphorbiaceae. La nueva especie pertence a la sect. Grossera y es cercana a a G. paniculata de la que se diferencia claramente por los caracteres foliares. Se incluye en el trabajo, además, una clave de identificación para la sect. Grossera.
In this paper, Grossera angustifolia Barberá & Riina, a new species within the "spurge family", is described from Equatorial Guinea. The new species belongs to sect. Grossera and it is most similar to G. paniculata, but the two species can be readily distinguished by several leaf characters. A key for the species of sect. Grossera is provided.
Grossera Pax es un género dioico de Euphorbiaceae con distribución Afro-Malgache. El género se distribuye fundamentalmente el occidente y centro de África tropical donde se encuentran 8 de las 9 especies que incluye, la otra especie crece en Madagascar. Se divide en tres secciones sobre la base de caracteres morfológicos: sect. Grossera, sect. Eglandulosae Léonard (1955) y sect. Columnella (Cavaco) Barberá. La revisión más reciente del género reconoce 8 especies de árboles y arbustos que ocupan un amplio rango de hábitats desde bosques primarios a degradados y desde el nivel del mar hasta 1350 m. En este artículo se describe una novena especie que crece a lo largo de las márgenes del río Wele en Guinea Ecuatorial, que se incluye en la sección Grossera.
El trabajo se ha realizado sobre la base del estudio de ejemplares de herbario manejados con los procedimiento estándar. Se han tomado datos de 55 caracteres cuantitativos. La anchura de la inflorescencia se ha calculado multiplicando por 2 la longitud de la rama inferior. Tanto los caracteres cuantitativos como los cualitativos se han utilizado en la clave de identificación y las descripciones. Se han generado mapas de distribución con el software ArcGis v. 9.3.
Grossera Pax is a dioecious genus of Euphorbiaceae with an Afro-Malagasy distribution, including one species in Madagascar and the remaining ones in West and Central Tropical Africa, from Ivory Coast to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola. The genus is currently classified in subfamily Crotonoideae, tribe Aleuritideae, and subtribe Grosserinae, and it is divided in three sections based on morphological characters: sect. Grossera, sect. Eglandulosae Léonard (1955) and sect. Columnella (Cavaco) Barberá (2014). The most recent taxonomic revision of Grossera recognized eight species of trees and shrubs occurring in a wide range of habitats, from primary to degraded forest and from sea level to 1350 m elevation. Here we describe and illustrate a new species growing along the Wele river in Equatorial Guinea, which we assign to sect. Grossera.
Dried herbarium specimens were examined according to standards procedures. Fifty-five quantitative characters were recorded. Inflorescence width was calculated by measuring the lenght of the lowest branch and multiplying it by two. Quantitative and qualitative characters were used in the key and descriptions. A suite of morphological characters served to distinguish the new species ofGrossera from the rest of the species revised by Barberá & al. (2014). The distribution maps was generated using ArcGis v. 9.3 software.
